In my role as a Community Investment Advisor at United Way of Salt Lake, I have the opportunity to work with remarkable companies who are committed to changing the odds for kids and families in our community. Dominion Questar Corporation just wrapped up its month-long employee giving campaign, and I was truly humbled by the generosity and commitment to philanthropy that I witnessed.

This year, Dominion Questar chose an Olympic campaign theme to continue the momentum from the Rio Summer Olympics. The slogan for this year’s campaign was “Champion the Change”, and each employee at Dominion Questar did just that; they came together as colleagues, friends, and members of the community to make a huge impact!

Over 100 of the company’s employees volunteer as Champions and Coordinators during the campaign and are responsible for planning campaign-related activities and events for their different areas and departments. Having fun while changing our community  is something that Dominion Questar does impeccably. These Champions and Coordinators planned numerous entertaining “Olympic” activities, tournaments, and competitions such as corn hole, bowling, archery, a 5k run, and more. In addition to all of the exciting Olympic events, dozens of employees also enjoyed volunteering during the employee giving campaign. Some came to UWSL community schools and neighborhood centers to hand out food at the mobile food pantries while others volunteered at community schools during afterschool programing to read with students and help them with homework. One team volunteered by assembling over 400 healthy snack kits that will benefit kindergarteners at South Kearns Elementary School!


Dominion Questar’s campaign is successful because its employees, and the organization as a whole, see the value in building strong communities and lending a hand to those who need it most. The company puts its full support behind the campaign and employees are afforded every opportunity to engage in and learn about the work of UWSL. This raises awareness about the issues facing our community and allows employees to make a direct and meaningful impact, which results in an enormously successful workplace giving campaign, as well as happier and more productive employees!
