Last month, United Way of Salt Lake’s Board of Directors sent a letter to our congressional delegation encouraging them to seize the current opportunity to modernize and reform our country’s outdated immigration system.

The work UWSL has been involved in with Utah’s immigrants and refugees has helped shape our understanding of, and position on, the critical need to support compassionate and comprehensive immigration reform. UWSL supports reform that focuses on the needs of children and families, and includes policies like the DREAM Act, which help to create a pathway to citizenship for immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

UWSL was instrumental in the development of The Utah Compact and believes immigration reform must be resolved at the federal level to address the needs of our economy and families. Our immigration system is broken and is a barrier to building healthy, vibrant communities. We want to thank Senator Hatch for his leadership and support in ensuring comprehensive immigration reform passed the Senate, and encourage our Congressional Representatives to make sure that the House passes a companion bill. Thank you for being an advocate for United Way of Salt Lake!
