At United Way of Salt Lake, we have been thinking a lot about what makes someone a “Changemaker”.

In one month, we will be holding our United for Change luncheon (formerly Celebration of Service) and we are honoring Changemakers from our community. Changemakers are individuals and organizations who have moved ideas to action and are working to create lasting solutions to our community’s toughest challenges. Changemakers work with others to achieve results that can’t be achieved alone.

I’ll be honest, when I was trying to think if I was a Changemaker, I felt my little actions were insignificant when compared to the amazing work of our honorees. But here’s the thing, big work, big ideas, and big community-wide change cannot happen without the small actions of each of us. So today I am going to take responsibility and claim my place in the community as a #SLChangemaker.

SLChangemaker

My small actions – tweeting to advocate for early childhood education, volunteering to help with elementary science projects, writing this blog – are ALL a part of the BIG CHANGE that is only possible with our small, but mighty, collective efforts.

I am Megan Richards, and I can confidently say “I am a Changemaker!” Join me and share on social media —  what makes YOU a #SLChangemaker?

Then, join us at United for Change to learn about our amazing 2016 Changemaker Honorees!
