What kind of impact do you dream about making?

If you had time volunteer in our community, how would you spend that time? Where would you serve and in what kind of projects would you invest your time?

I’d like to introduce you to Danielle Thompson. I met Danielle while speaking with AAA employees in Clearfield during AAA’s month-long employee engagement campaign. Danielle approached me and began to share some of her dreams with me. I was inspired by her story, and I asked her to briefly share that story with you.

Thank you, Danielle, for showing our community what it means to LIVE UNITED, and for helping to make our community a better and safer place to live!

AAA, Guest Blogger

I am honored to be a guest writer for United Way of Salt Lake’s blog, Community Voice.  I’m excited to work for a company like AAA, which allows me the opportunity to volunteer and give back to my community on a regular basis. Because of AAA’s partnership with United Way of Salt Lake, AAA employees have access to meaningful volunteer projects in the communities where we live.

Just to shed a little light on me, I am from Southern California. I have been living in Utah with my husband and daughter for the past 6 years, and I love it here! My mother was a single mother to my sister and me, and we were raised in a low-income family. Growing up, it was hard to see my mother struggle to keep us afloat. I vowed to always give back if I could and to always help people when I can.

My passion is giving back to the people I love and care about. My dream is to open a family facility to help less fortunate and homeless families. Sometimes, it can be so hard to provide for your family, especially when you have a lot of other things to worry about, like finding suitable employment, providing food and shelter, and any potential medical emergencies. My goal is to open a place where a family can call home and not have to worry about where they will eat or where they will sleep at night.

I want to be this change I see necessary in my community. When I reach my goal, and with this center open, I will be better able to provide families with not only a great home but a great support system where it matters most, and work with other nonprofits to solve bigger community problems. All it takes is that one person to try and make a difference in our community and make it better, and that is exactly what I am aiming to do.
