There are only two weeks left of the 2011 legislative session and there’s still a lot of work to get done. This week Committees will be meeting through Wednesday, and the rest of the session will be spent debating bills on the floor. Yet one committee will continue to meet, Executive Appropriations will have some scheduled meetings beyond Wednesday as the final budget is crafted.

Since the final budget has not been decided, a number of UWSL’s top priorities are still up in the air. Specifically, we are unclear as to whether the legislature is interested in investing in optional extended-day kindergarten or the K-3 Reading Improvement Program, and if they are, whether there will be requirements on how districts must spend these pots of money. Please stay tuned for action alerts that may be coming your way this week on these important issues.

A number of new bills were recently introduced and UWSL will be taking positions on these bills this week. Please check out our updated, comprehensive bill tracker for a list of all the bills and budget items that we are currently working or will be taking a position on soon.
