I have the great honor of working with three tremendously talented and dedicated Community Learning Center (CLC) Coordinators: Tiffany, Irlanda and Diego.
Tiffany Jesperson is the CLC Coordinator for the Davis CLC, located at Wasatch Elementary School in Clearfield – a position she’s held for three years. She was born and raised in San Diego. After graduating from high school, she attended Snow College in Ephraim, UT on a basketball scholarship. She then went onto the University of Utah, earning a Master’s degree in social work. During her education, she completed two internships that would later shape her career path: the first as a social worker at a school, and the second as a social worker at Hartland (a Welcome Center for refugees). These internships helped Tiffany realize that she wanted to work with students and with the community. She discovered the job that combined her two interests when she saw the position she now holds posted on UWSL’s website.
Irlanda Lamoureux is the CLC Coordinator for the four CLCs in Park City (Jeremy Ranch, Parley’s Park, McPolin and Trailside Elementary Schools). She was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico. She moved to Vail, CO seven years ago to participate in an internship program focused on English language skills. She then received a work visa so she could teach core subjects in Spanish at a middle school in Vail, and then worked as the site coordinator for after school programs for the Vale School District. After meeting her husband, she moved Chicago where she attended graduate school. Upon completing her degree, she worked as a high school teacher, until she and her husband moved to the Salt Lake City area this past fall. Shortly after moving here, she was hired for her current position. She and her husband just purchased a home in Jeremy Ranch.
Diego Zegarra is the Coordinator for Holy Cross Ministries, working in the Jeremy Ranch and Parley’s Park CLCs. He’s originally from Lima, Peru, where he lived for 21 years. For the past six years, he’s lived in Salt Lake City. He and his wife are returning to Lima this weekend, where they will have a large family celebration of their marriage. Diego started working for Holy Cross Ministries in their After School Program at the request of a friend, who, at that time, had the position that Diego now holds. Diego got “hooked to working with kids.” When his substitute time was up, he worked at a different after school program in the Salt Lake Valley. This past summer, he coordinated the Summer Program at Holy Cross Ministries, and, according to Diego, “I must’ve done something right because the sisters offered me the coordinator position. My name is now on the window so I’m pretty sure they can’t get rid of me at this point.”
