The Five Parks Community Action Center, located in West Valley City, is one of United Way of Salt Lake’s newest Neighborhood Centers. The Center provides services to more than 5,000 low and moderate income residents living in five nearby mobile home parks.

Recently, to celebrate the National Day of Service, nearly 100 parents, kids, and community members visited the Five Parks Community Action Center–many for the first time. Families were greeted by 35 spirited volunteers who distributed bags of food and books, as well as homemade coloring books for the kids. Volunteers organized the book drive and collected more than 400 (mostly new) books for the Center. Community Nursing Services provided more than 70 flu shots. Key Bank opened around 20 savings accounts for residents–a strategy that aims to increase income and encourage families to save for college. Several other UWSL partners, including 2-1-1, Utah Health Policy Project, and Junior Achievement, also attended the event introducing families to the work they do in Promise West Valley. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers, partners, and families who took part in the National Day of Service.
