A little over a year ago, 2-1-1 Utah joined the United Way of Salt Lake family. I have to admit, when I first heard the news that we would be gaining a call center I had no idea what to expect. It was a lot of fun getting to know everyone in 2-1-1 the first few months they were here! The ladies and gents that work in the call center are a blast! They have a great sense of humor and laugh at my lame jokes. I officially approve of keeping them!
Over the last 5 months I have been working with the 2-1-1 team to re-build their website, and I have learned they are so much more then a great group of people with a stellar sense of humor. They have real depth. Everyday they are asked tough questions, they talk with people who are desperately searching for any assistance, and they help get people involved in meaningful volunteering. Last year, 2-1-1 helped 117,000 people get connected with resources in our community. That is a lot of people who found the assistance they needed through a simple phone call. I think that is pretty incredible!
As I helped 2-1-1 build their website, I was able to learn more about their mission, vision, and ideals. Their goals are big and their tasks are astounding at times. They work hard to make sure that there are up-to-date resource lists, that they are educated and informed on the needs of our communities, and that they can help people find awesome volunteer opportunities. Their work everyday is truly selfless.
Please take some time to look at their new website and search out ways to either find help or give help. The web address is the same, 211ut.org, but it is a whole new site! We would love your feedback on how to make this site more accessible and highlight the resources most needed.
