Celebration of Service is United Way of Salt Lake’s annual event to honor outstanding individuals and organizations who demonstrate every day how they LIVE UNITED through their leadership and commitment to the community. We hope you will join us on Wednesday, May 15, in celebration!
The honorees of the 2013 Celebration of Service awards are committed to working with United Way of Salt Lake to solve our communities’ toughest challenges. They engage their will, passion, expertise, and resources to improve lives and build a stronger community for us all. These individuals and organizations multiply the impact that United Way of Salt Lake has on our community. They are dedicated to working with us to fulfill our promise to change the odds so that all children and families, regardless of their circumstances, have the same chance to succeed in school and life.
Compassionate Leader of the Year: George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation
The Eccles Foundation was one of the first organizations to support United Way of Salt Lake in its Collective Impact work, making a $100,000 donation for Neighborhood Center pilot programs. This critical seed money helped establish the growth of United Way of Salt Lake’s work in neighborhoods and Neighborhood Centers. This past year, the Eccles Foundation demonstrated its commitment to improving the quality of life for all children and families in our community with a remarkable gift of $1 million to United Way of Salt Lake’s Changing the Odds Campaign.
President’s Award for Excellence: President Wayne Niederhauser and Senator Todd Weiler, Utah State Senate
To address the issues that affect us all, and to truly solve the complex problems that face our neighborhoods and communities, United Way of Salt Lake works closely with state leaders to influence public policies. There is no greater example of that collaboration than the work led this past year by United Way of Salt Lake, Senate President Wayne Niederhauser and Senator Todd Weiler to strengthen our state’s 2-1-1 system. 2-1-1 is the state’s most comprehensive information and referral resource for health and human services.
Corporate Partner of the Year: Savage
As United Way of Salt Lake has developed Promise Partnerships and Neighborhood Centers, Savage has helped in ways that go beyond donations; with ideas, employee volunteers, and hands-on support. Savage is directly involved in United Way of Salt Lake’s Collective Impact work in Midvale. The members of the senior management team are key partners in the development of a Promise Partnership with Canyons School District and Midvale City. As a strategic partner, Savage offers collaboration and resources to help address tough community issues that affect families in Midvale.
Volunteer of the Year: Cecelia H. Foxley, Ph.D.
Cece believes in the work of United Way of Salt Lake and has been instrumental in helping develop new partnerships. She is a member of United Way of Salt Lake’s Changing the Odds Campaign Steering Committee. The Committee was charged with helping shape United Way of Salt Lake’s new message, develop strategies to reach new donors, and provide leadership and guidance to staff. Cece took her committee assignments very seriously and helped open new doors, forge new relationships, and strengthen existing relationships for United Way of Salt Lake with our state’s leading philanthropists. Cece shares United Way of Salt Lake’s vision for transforming lives and communities and has been successful at helping others catch our vision and be inspired by the possibilities of what can be accomplished together.
Promise Partner of the Year: Granite School District
Granite School District demonstrates the kind of partners and partnerships that will make a difference in the days and years ahead as United Way of Salt Lake works to create opportunities for children and families from cradle to career. Granite School District has committed to a joint approach to problem solving and shares United Way of Salt Lake’s vision for change.
