Every month, students at Lincoln Elementary School in South Salt Lake earn Lincoln “Loot Bucks” from their teachers, by turning in homework, performing well on tests, or helping out in their class. Once a month, they take all their “Loot Bucks” and go shopping at the Lincoln Loot Store for treats and prizes. The store is stocked with a variety of items that have been donated by members of the community including, schools supplies, personal care items, books, toys and games. Students are able to apply the math skills they learn in a safe and fun atmosphere while learning valuable decision making and money management skills, as they save up for the larger items, like new basketballs or character backpacks.
Approximately 400 students shop at the Lincoln Loot Store each month, so inventory turns over quickly, as the school year nears its end, so have our supplies. We are looking for new or very gently used donations to stock the Loot Store. The most popular items are always gender-specific; age appropriate (5-12yo) toys and games, but we can always use items in any of the listed categories with just a few examples below.
School Supplies | Personal Care | Books | Toys | Games |
Pencil Boxes | Toothbrush/paste | Dr. Seuss | Action Figures | Jr. Edition games |
Markers/Colored pencils | Shampoo | Early chapter books | Sports: kites, Frisbees, balls | Arts and craft kits |
Notebooks | Deodorant | Newbery winners | Stuffed animals | Puzzles |
If you are interested in donating items, volunteering in May, or sponsoring the store in the 2014-2015 school year, please contact Craig Foster at craig@uw.org.
