For United Way of Salt Lake and the communities we serve, 12-12-12 is a historic day. At 12:12 p.m., we publicly announced Our Promise to Change the Odds, so that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the same chance to succeed in school and in life.
In order to fulfill this promise, we knew we needed to strengthen our work with additional financial resources, and so with the dedicated leadership of board members Kem Gardner and Kathie Miller, who have served tirelessly as Co-chairs, the Changing the Odds Campaign was born. It’s hard to believe that not quite a year ago, we could only imagine what the outcome of all our hard work would be.
We set a goal to raise fifteen million dollars and hoped to be able to announce we’d reached twelve million dollars by 12-12-12 for our public announcement. Today, I’m absolutely thrilled to share that we didn’t just meet our goal, we crushed it!
Together with our communities’ leading foundations, businesses, and many other individuals, we’ve raised $14,312,600!! Most importantly, these resources will ensure our partnerships with businesses, schools, cities, and our community’s most visionary philanthropists, will literally change the odds for children, their families, and entire communities—today, and for generations to come.
Today is a proud day for United Way of Salt Lake board members, campaign steering committee members, and staff members! Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who helped to make this day a reality.
Please, join with us and help to Change the Odds!
