Policy Matters Update

Last week Executive Appropriations approved recommendations from each of the Sub-Appropriations Committees. The base budget, which is just the beginning of the debate around the budget, was then passed on Wednesday. While extensive cuts were initially made, the Sub-Appropriations Committees ranked the cuts and are continuing to hear testimony this week on which items should be backfilled when the new revenue estimates are in at the end of February.  You can find a full list of all of the cuts here.

UWSL will be calling on you to help advocate for programs that are at risk of being severely cut or eliminated. This week please see the Action Alert on Optional Extended-Day Kindergarten, one of UWSL’s top priorities.

Please also check out our updated, comprehensive bill tracker for a list of the bills and budget items that we are currently working on.
