Last Friday, Savage’s Senior Leadership Team tied on their aprons to celebrate another year of outstanding service! Savage’s BBQ tradition has always been an incentive to reach 100 percent participation in the company’s annual giving campaign – if 100 percent isn’t achieved, the BBQ doesn’t happen. This year, however, recognizing that giving time and money is very personal and often difficult, Savage committed to host the event regardless of whether or not everyone was able to participate.
It was amazing to watch Savage’s entire giving campaign take on this thoughtful tone. It became a designated time to step back and think critically about Savage’s place in our community. Employees took time to really learn about the day-to-day challenges thousands of low-income families face in our neighborhoods. They reflected on their volunteer efforts at Granite Park Jr. High School and celebrated how their work is directly contributing to system-level change in South Salt Lake.
And it wouldn’t be Savage if there wasn’t a little fun involved! To compliment this idea of going “back to basics”, Savage’s planning committee took the company back to school with pop quizzes, field trips, school picture guessing games, and school lunches.
When it came time for the BBQ, everyone was excited to celebrate a fun and meaningful two weeks – though few expected everyone to have participated under the new rules.
For the 14th year in a row, however, it was announced that 100 percent of Savage employees made a pledge to change the odds for local kids and families. What’s more, Savage was also presented with a Lt. Governor’s Volunteer Recognition Award for their work at Granite Park Jr. High.
United Way of Salt Lake is proud to have Savage as one of our closest community partners, and was thrilled to celebrate another incredible year of service with you on Friday. Your response to this year’s campaign speaks volumes to your true generosity. Here’s to many more years of steak at Savage!
