Last week, United Way Worldwide brought students, educators, parents and partners face-to-face with national leaders like U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and White House Domestic Policy advisor Melody Barnes for the first-ever United Way Education Town Hall.
We discussed a new United Way Worldwide report that says America has reached a turning point in education. Brian Gallagher, CEO of United Way Worldwide, also made a historic announcement: United Way will recruit one million new volunteer readers, tutors and mentors to help young people succeed in school and life.
We invite you to join us! Most volunteer reader, tutor and mentor programs begin at the beginning of the school year, and we have a lot to do to get ready.
In the meantime, will you pledge to volunteer in your community this year?

It’s supporters like you who will make this movement a success. The children in the communities we work in deserve all the help they need to learn and grow — and a few hours a day each week is all it takes to change a child’s life.
So take a minute now and add your name to the thousands of people who have already signed up to volunteer.

Thank you so much for supporting the town hall and for sharing your ideas. Together with United Way, we are making our communities stronger, safer, and healthier.
Sincerely,
Peter Hahn
