Parsons Behle & Latimer, a prominent law firm in Salt Lake City, has been a long-standing partner of United Way of Salt Lake. Each year, the firm hosts an enormously successful workplace giving campaign that includes games, bake sales, raffles, volunteer opportunities and a slew of other exciting events that allow employees to have fun with the campaign and learn about the work of UWSL. This year, the theme for the United Way campaign was Office Olympics. Each day, the employees of the firm participated in entertaining, competitive “Olympic” games, and daily fundraising concessions sales.
As part of this year’s campaign, the staff also participated in a volunteer project at Granger Elementary School with the mobile food pantry. Granger Elementary, a United Way of Salt Lake community school, is the largest elementary school in the Granite School District. The school has more 860 students and 79 percent qualify for free and reduced price lunch. United Way of Salt Lake works with our partners in the area to bring much needed services to the kids that attend Granger Elementary and their families.
Each month, the Utah Food Bank’s mobile food pantry parks in front of Granger Elementary and students and their families line up to receive items from the truck. The volunteers from Parsons Behle & Latimer enthusiastically participated from start to finish — setting up, distributing food to students and families, and then cleaning up afterwards. The volunteers enjoyed being able to interact with the students from Granger and loved being able to engage with the work of UWSL and our partners in a meaningful way. The employees found the experience so enjoyable and fulfilling that they decided to volunteer outside of the campaign, and will be doing a quarterly volunteer project with the mobile food pantry.
By participating in an ongoing service project, the impact that Parsons Behle & Latimer
makes on the community will grow exponentially.
Congratulations for stepping up and changing the odds!
