Michelle Hollingshed is a member of the Tocqueville Society and Women United donor networks. This is why she gives to United Way of Salt Lake.

1. How did you first hear about United Way/United Way of Salt Lake?

I was introduced to United Way with my first employer while working through college.  Every company I have worked with since has supported United Way and I have been fortunate to see how the organization has grown and evolved.

2. What motivated you to give and volunteer?

I believe in science and making decisions using data where possible.  United Way’s model is geared around making a difference in the community where all people achieve their human potential through education, financial stability, and healthy lives.  United Way shows they are delivering on their mission by demonstrating tangible results.

3. What aspect of United Way of Salt Lake’s mission have you connected to most and why?

United Way believes in bringing services to an individual and the entire family by combining resources from various community organizations. There are many causes that add to our society’s challenges and one approach can’t address every need.  United Way serves as a quarterback to best coordinate services from various organizations.  This coordinated approach is the most effective way of making a long-lasting change in the community.

4. Why do you believe it is important to support the Salt Lake community?

I was raised by a single mom who struggled to make ends meet.  I was very fortunate to have received the help that I did and feel a responsibility to give back.
