Logistic Specialties Inc. (LSI) is a family owned business started by President and CEO Sean Slatter’s grandfather 40 year ago. LSI’s business is creating business opportunities for other businesses! Specifically, LSI helps Utah businesses and companies across the country overcome barriers and navigate the often complex and nuanced process of obtaining government contracts. They do this in a way that increases their win rate and decreases their costs. LSI is headquartered in Layton, Utah with offices in Washington, DC, and 33 other locations around the US. They also have offices in Singapore. Under Sean and Catherine Slatter’s leadership, LSI has enjoyed phenomenal success in a very difficult and incredibly competitive economic environment. LSI clients have created thousands of largely high-paying, high-tech jobs in Utah and have brought millions of dollars into our local economy.
2011 was an extraordinary year for LSI marked by an unrelenting series of awards and recognition. Among them, the Defense Logistics Agency named them the Small Business Innovative Business Performer of the Year. Governor Gary Herbert presented LSI with the Genius Award for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Investment. The Davis Chamber of Commerce gave them their 2011 Business of the Year Award. Finally, but not least, for the 20th straight year LSI was recognized by United Way of Salt Lake as a Community Champion.
In many ways the latter award speaks volumes about LSI’s core values. Their amazing business success and focus on professional excellence and delivering maximum rate on investment for their customers, has not obscured or diminished their ever growing interest and concern for the least advantaged in our communities. They truly have a vision that everyone should have a shot at the American Dream. Although LSI employees do a lot for the community at large, they have embraced United Way of Salt Lake as their charity of choice because of its broad community outreach and deep impact–particularly in changing the odds of success in schools and in life for children and families. LSI has an exceptional United Way of Salt Lake employee giving campaign that is coordinated by Laurie Pless which has 100% participation.
Despite an incredible personal and business schedule, Sean Slatter serves a leading role on UWSL’s Board of Directors and on the Executive Board. He also serves on the Safe Harbor Crisis Center’s Board of Directors. Catherine Slatter, who is Senior Vice President of LSI, also serves on the board for two of United Way of Salt Lake’s partner agencies in Davis County, The Family Connection Center and Pioneer Adult Rehab Center. Bill George, LSI’s Vice President for Human Resources, serves on the United Way’s Davis Leadership Council. Simply said, LSI cares deeply about the community. It is part of their corporate culture and business practice to give, advocate, and volunteer. We are so proud of this remarkable company and its employees that walk the talk and LIVE UNITED!
