It was Halloween afternoon, and Rockwell Collins wanted to do something to celebrate! In addition to its annual giving campaign, Rockwell Collins decided to host an event to motivate employees to LIVE UNITED, while having fun at the same time.
BMW of Murray, agreed to bring a BMW 3 Series out to the event for the entire afternoon. Rockwell Collins provided all of the BBQ fixings, and Jeff Walton from Rockwell brought out about the coolest grill we’ve ever seen–as well as his very considerable grilling skills!
Right away, we could see that this was going to be a fun event. How did we know that? Well, the circus clown behind the wheel of the BMW was probably our first clue! Just between the grill and the car, we probably had enough going on to keep everyone entertained, but in addition to that, there were several drawings for Rockwell Collins merchandise as well as drawing forms for the BMW itself.
Zeni, another UWSL Community Investment Advisor, was a star attraction herself – she took the occasion to chat with almost everyone, not just about the awesome car but about what it means to change the odds in a community, as opposed to helping one individual beat the odds. Getting the chance to really talk one on one with everybody about the work United Way of Salt Lake is engaged in in our community was a terrific opportunity!! Many people had comments and questions, and some who have heard of our work had high praise. She was very impressed with everybody that she met and spoke with at Rockwell Collins and their excitement to be involved with United Way of Salt Lake! On top of all that, she got to see their flight simulator!
By the time the drawings and burgers were done, everybody was happy and motivated. It’s not every day that you watch Abe Lincoln win a prize and Maleficent smile. And next year, they even promised to let Zeni drive the flight simulator!
