Leadership Circle members recently paired up with students at Kearns High School to participate in the United Way of Salt Lake’s mock interview program. The mock interview program gives students the ability to practice skills for future jobs and college interviews. For many students, this was their first time interviewing, preparing a resume, and having to sell their skills to a professional. The interviews concluded with a mock networking session to get students more comfortable in a professional environment.
The mock interviews create a unique environment that allows students the opportunity to gain access to professionals in different industries all over Utah. It also provides students the opportunity to ask questions and learn from professionals who are working in fields that they are interested in.
For Leadership Circle members, it is all about making sure these students have every chance to succeed. “It was obvious from my interaction with the students, that they are dedicated to learning the skills necessary to succeed,” said Leadership Circle member Will Schwarzenbach. “I was impressed by the quality of the resume my student had prepared, and the poise and professionalism she displayed in her interview.”
Volunteers are able to provide feedback to students on their resumes, give advice on how to approach interviews, and help students enter the next stage of their life with more confidence as they go off to college.
