Empower more people to get out and vote in 2020 by volunteering during the election cycle
COVID-19 has changed day-to-day life for nearly everyone, but it hasn’t changed the fact that there’s a presidential election this year. For many of us, playing an active role in local events is a given, and this year is no different. If you’re a civic-minded individual looking for nonpartisan ways to take action, look no further!
Here are some of the ways you can support voter’s rights this year:
1. Make sure you’re registered to vote! You can register to vote, check your voter registration, and update your ballot mailing address at vote.utah.gov. Click here to read more about why your vote matters.
2. Volunteer as a poll worker in your county by going to your County Clerk’s Office website and filling out the form necessary to be considered. Be aware there is a mandatory training prior to election day.
3. Become a Voter Protection Volunteer. ACLU of Utah is seeking poll watchers, roving poll monitors, social media monitors, intake monitoring, and voter education and outreach volunteers. These opportunities start with early voting and go through the election. Sign-up here for all opportunities.
4. Become a VOTERISE Ambassador. VOTERISE is a nonpartisan nonprofit based in Utah focused on increasing voter registration and turnout among 18-29-year-olds and underrepresented groups. VOTERISE Ambassadors help register people to vote and remind people to vote at election time.
5. Take action through Comunidades Unidas’ VoteFor2 program, which helps Latinx community members register to vote by hosting and participating in get out the vote events.
6. Work to increase Black voter turnout through the NAACP’s Civic Engagement Program. Starting in October, volunteers will be asked to contact up to 20 infrequent voters in the weeks before the 2020 election.
Voting is a right and a privilege, and there’s no better time than now to help ensure a free and fair election.
