Ryker Lloyd volunteers to stuff backpacks during the Stuff the Bus event in Sandy on Saturday. Hundreds of volunteers collected and sorted school supplies into backpacks during the event. Each of the 5,000 backpacks were “stuffed” with a folder, notebook, pencils, pens, glue, eraser and coloring instrument. Nearly 78 companies, nonprofits, government agencies, community groups, Scout troops and community members donated 130,378 school supply items for the event, according to the organization’s website. United Way of Salt Lake City will give the backpacks to students before school starts over the next few weeks.
