Ninety local businesses, 3,000 volunteers, and more than half a million dollars’ worth of work — that is the outpouring of community service Utah saw, Thursday, as part of the United Way of Salt Lake’s annual Day of Caring.
Companies divided into groups and tackled about 100 projects throughout Salt Lake, Davis, and Summit Counties.
In South Salt Lake, a team of 100-plus employees from Savage Services Corp. spent the day working on three homes along Claybourne Avenue. The group cleared heavy debris, painted, and landscaped, bringing grateful recipients nearly to tears.
“I’m just amazed that there are this many people in the world that are nice and caring about somebody… There’s nothing in the world I could ever do to repay them for their generosity,” said Kathy North, who watched in awe as the volunteers cleaned up her home.
Other businesses volunteered at schools, non-profit organizations, and homeless shelters.
