Every years at the end of the summer, most kids go back-to-school shopping for all of their school supplies. Unfortunately, not every has that luxury.
The people of the United Way of Salt Lake want to help. Stephanie Rokich from the United Way of Salt Lake talks more about the “Stuff the Bus.”
United Way of Salt Lake’s Stuff the Bus event aims to provide school supplies for 11,000 students this year.
More than 600 volunteers are helping to count, sort, set-up, and fill backpacks that will be distributed to United Way Community Schools and Neighborhood Centers across nearly 30 locations that serve low-income children and families in the community.
The event is happening on Saturday, August 27 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the America First Pavilion at Rio Tinto Stadium. The event includes lunch, games, and fun activities for families in addition to packing the backpacks with school supplies.
Here’s how you can help: Organizers still need people to drop off school supplies at the Columbus Community Center in South Salt Lake (2531 South 400 East) through Thursday, August 18 between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
If someone can’t make it out to drop off a donation they can donate money to be used to purchase the needed school supplies online at uw.org/donate.
