3/1/2019 — It’s rhyme time at schools across the country as students celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss. The National Education Association started the ‘National Read Across America Initiative’ on the same day to encourage schools and communities across the country to celebrate reading.
The day is usually observed on March 2nd which is also the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, the author known as Dr. Seuss.
Since the day falls on Saturday when schools are not open, the day is being celebrated on Friday, one day earlier.
Volunteers with the United Way of Salt Lake will be volunteering at 15 Salt Lake County elementary schools to read Dr. Seuss books and play rhyming games to encourage kids to find the fun in reading.
