SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) -It’s the season of service and the United Way is searching for volunteers.

The season kicked off Tuesday and runs through the end of the year.

Tuesday, volunteers were at James E. Moss Elementary in Salt Lake City to give students the gift of reading this holiday season.

Teams read winter stories in the classrooms and helped them “level” their library.

“What that means is they’ll score each book, so our students can find a book that is at an appropriate reading level a lot more fast. They don’t have to worry about taking a book home that’s a little too advanced for them or too easy for them,” said Chris Dammert, Community School Director with United Way of Salt Lake.

United Way will also deliver reading kits and read to classes at West Kearns Elementary on Thursday, December 20.

If you can’t volunteer, the United Way of Salt Lake is also accepting donations. You can learn more at https://uw.org/.
