Guest Blogger, UWSL Young Leader

This month’s Lunch with a Leader opportunity was with Dan Cameron, Vice President and Refinery Manager of the Tesoro refinery.  He discussed the refinery and oil business, the economic supply and demand relationships, the future challenges, and how they adapt as a company.  He also shared how they have created a culture of giving back and helping local causes as well as the importance of service.  His unbiased insight into the world of oil was informative and clarified some of the issues facing our current political and consumer environment.

It is always fascinating to learn how different companies utilize basic business principles to manage and sustain their firms.  He had additional insight on how to energize and inspire employees to give time and money to different causes.  Some of which I plan on implementing in my organization.  We were also able to tour the control center and see the inter-working of the whole refinery.

Lunch with a Leader has given me unprecedented access to some of the greatest leaders and minds in Salt Lake.  I have enjoyed interacting with these great people, hearing their story of success and asking questions.  As a Young Leader, I have had the opportunity to make a difference in my community as well as network with other Young Leaders.
